Many years ago, I was in a book club here in the UK.
When it was my second turn to choose what we all read I chose this, after my first choice John Wyndham's 'The Kraken Wakes' had gone down rather well.
It's an excellent, but challenging, apocalyptic sci-fi novel written in the early 1970s.
Everyone was initially pleased as one of the previous books that was well-received by the group had been 'War of the Worlds' by HG Wells, but after they'd read my choice and we met, I was asked to leave.
