Yep anon, your lack of IQ and experience will definitely be compensated for by reading a bunch of words and not understanding their meaning. Good luck!

Concerning cases in German, I would advise you to ingrain them into your memory before proceeding with further grammar. I also made the mistake of half-assing them only to get frustrated later when trying to remember their function in later readings. As the Romans said, repetition is the mother of memory. Practice by writing sentences in all three genders in each case. To facilitate the process, use the same word in various ways and repeat it until you no longer have to think about it consciously. I'm not saying to put in hours everyday doing all three but spread them out like, "on this day I will do it for the masculine, tomorrow for the feminine," etc.

Concerning memorizing genders, there are three things I recommend.

First, use physical note cards since your brain retains things better when you have to write them out by hand (physical) instead of typing them, or even worse copy pasting them, into anki or quizlet.

Second, color code the nouns (visual) and place its nominative article on the front. Personally, I use blue for masculine, pink for feminine, and black for neuter. It may be cheating but this will give your brain visual cues and associations to better link the word to its gender.

Third, use your imagination to further the link. For example, let's take the word Dichter. Now, this word is masculine and means Poet or Writer so I would first imagine a man (gender). Then I would have to link its sound to its meaning. Therefore, my imagination would lead me to think of a man writing a poem about his dick. You can either write this little mnemonic aid on the back side of the note card with its definition or keep it in your mind. The more outrageous, violent, or sexual the picture in the mind's eye, the better it retains it.

Good luck.
