Is there still merit to maximalism as a literary paradigm?

I'm pretty excited for my copies of Slow Learner and Gravity's Rainbow to come in at the local book shop this weekend, but I still have to finish Mason & Dixon...

I also am probably ordering White Noise by Delillo and JR by Gaddis.

WHAT DO I DO WHEN I RUN OUT OF POMO /lit/?!?!?!

I have to say, the more I hear people bitch about how strange and pointless it seems and the more I reflect on having read the first couple of pages and a passage about a tree telling the protagonist to steal a tractors oil can; the more I want to drop the rest of my backlog and order this now just to see what I think of this apparent Behemoth.

I'm looking to get into Pynchon. Should I start with V. or TCoL49? After those two would I probably be okay to do Mason and Dixon? That one sounds pretty interesting.
