I didn't mean to imply anything salacious. What I meant was that if the young girl is going into puberty you could make the story a "coming of age" tale. Perhaps the three of them try to figure a way out a way to survive/escape their situation. The engineer would think from a STEM perspective, trying to figure out the mechanics of the elevator so they can escape. The lawyer would think from a humanities perspective, and would address ethical questions such as how best to distribute the scant food the group has while they try to survive. The young girl sees these two perhaps as future versions of herself. The two worldviews vex and fascinate her, and force her to ask herself what type of person she wants to grow up to be.

I had an english teacher in high school who would kick us, throw pens at us, strike us with textbooks, mock, and belittle us every day. He would pretend to forget our names and his nickname for me was "Useless." He also said I had "big clunky farmerhands" because of my Nordic last name and the fact that I do in fact have very large hands.

We all loved him because it was fucking hilarious and it broke up the brutal monotony of high school. He was also very good at teaching english and would go on long digressions about the '68 riots in Paris and Electro-convulsive therapy. He couldn't get fired because he had decades of seniority and was soon to retire anyway. That was one class I always looked forward to, even though he went a little too far on occasion. Professors are too damn polite to everyone, probably because of rampant SJWery.
