Why is German philosophy difficult to understand? I’m trying to read Schopenhauer as of the moment, but can’t grasp anything. Is it because of how distant we are in time? I am either lacking the context for his philosophy, or it is just incorrect and won’t fit in my mind because of the differences in our worldview. I don’t think the former is likely, since I’ve read most of the philosophers preceding Schopenhauer, and whose influence can be felt in his philosophy — Plato, Kant, and Locke. So what is it? It being all wrong, or too complex?
