Information is condensed into little easy to digest factoids, it never occurs to most people to do more reading on something for the sake or love of learning. We're never given the encouragement to think for ourselves, only to chew and spit back out.
Besides, why think when you can surf facebook, get stoned, or watch television?
Just my two cents, from what I'm experiencing in the school system.
