1. Is all arts and humanities academia a posturing contest? I was watching [1] and, despite being no SJW, I get the impression that History academia is just Big Important Old Authoritative White Men saying Big Important Things about Big Old Dead White Men. Or just fitting a curve to your selected points. Also look at Zizek. Also I read that the prestige of your grad school matters a gigantic amount for getting good academia jobs but I read in the economist that that wasn't the case for Economics PhDs (they're judged very meritocraticly and the top 10 % PhDs by publication importance at Ohio State do better than almost everyone at MIT (made up example)).

2. So following from that, is all "seriousness" in literature discussion just contrived bullshit?

3. Also I've only skimmed the wiki pages for the Rawls - Nozick thing, but wasn't Rawls just trying to bypass the fact that ethical rules are just made up? How could he have expected to even do this?
