It was required reading in 9th grade.
Awful story, ludicrous style, garbage "philosophy". Honestly one of the most pathetic attempts at fiction that I've ever read.

If they want us to start with babby's first philosophy, can't it be something good like Plato?

Hello /lit/
To start off I would like to introduce myself as a simple newfag interested in expanding his library.
I have read the works of Lovecraft, Tolkein, and Steinbeck, yet that is my current limit.
Would anyone have a recommendation as to where to start, hopefully something that explores human nature and it's relationship with conceptual "utopias"

Pic Unrelated in every sense of the word.

What do you guys thing of Atlas Shrugged?
I'm 150 pages in and Rand's prose is painful.
I enjoyed Fountainhead for the development of a hero type plot and philosophical structure, but Atlas Shrugged is looking to be the same thing only without a clear protagonist yet and with even long winded and polarized capitalist rambling. Is this thing worth the read?

anyone else think this is the second most monolithic pile of corporate propaganda ever created? (behind the federalist papers that is)

Is Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead a more accessible introduction to Ayn Rand's philosophy?

I don't come to /lit/ very often, but if I remember correctly, /lit/ hates this book. Can anyone explain why?

Sup /lit/, /v/ here. Two of my favorite games are Bioshock and its sequel. Now I've heard that the story is inspired by Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and now that I know there's a book like Bioshock I kind of want to read it.

Has /lit/ read it? If so, what did you think of it? Sorry if you get this question a lot.

Give a detailed argument why you do not like Ayn Rand or her works.

I believe she is a great author and a brilliant philosopher - why can't lit accept her.

Please explain
