In Dexter's Laboratory the laboratory is symbolic of the psychosexual space shared only by brother and sister in which their development is ever recapitulated. The brother is building, accumulating, refining; his meta-erection, as it were, his one genital development fractally nesting his many erections and drawing them back to itself, like the number 10 draws back its decimals. His sister constantly threatening to "push the button" and literal explosions is almost distastefully obvious. The coincidence between passivity and volatility in feminine sexuality: despite contributing nothing to the laboratory, she is the one who causes its greatest releases of energy with the least amount of effort. The ambiguity of feminine arousal: she often sneaks in unnoticed. The incontinence of the her genitals: she cannot stop herself. The brother's recollection of his initial sexual weakness and the sister's recollection of her initial sexual strength are practically interdependent. Not only in the sense that one remembers the other from one's point of view inasmuch as one remembers one's self, but that the other is actually present and participates in the recollection. The laboratory is the space shared by them alone.
