Unfortunately, he's also a shit leader who was so surrounded by yesmen that he believed his own bullshit and now a million plus have fled the country, spurring on demographic collapse, while casualties are headed north of 400,000 and will almost certainly reach half a million this year, with 150,000 or so being KIA.

This would be like America taking 500,000 dead and over a million casualties if you scale for population. And the vaunted Soviet stockpiles are now all gone and it will take decades to replace them. And two new countries on the border entered NATO and neighboring states vastly upped defense spending while also shutting down huge amounts of trade with Russia. Truly, their sacrifice has helped make Russia safer and stronger.

Well for one, a poor person in the West doesn't get conscripted and forced to assault entrenched positions in 60 year old poorly maintained vehicles after freezing in a trench and starving for months so that a 70 year old man can play IRL Hearts of Iron and secure his "legacy."
