Can someone explain what exactly Wittgenstein meant by "language games"? I never read his work, but I think I have an idea of what he means. I just want clarification

I've gotten into the occult. That is to say I did a syncretic study of religious orders both extant and defunct in the search for some underlying truth. I blame this hazardous search for the idiotic protestant theology I grew up with. The problem is these ideas are blasting my mind to atoms now. I'm wondering how did philosophers like Plato or Hegel or even Gautama manage to keep it together? Just contemplating the most mundane thing can quickly turn into an eldritch horror.
