Now look at this painting of Sappho. Its from England and only a little over a hundred years old. What's it doing?

There's no sleep for the sad man,
the face of a plow I face just one more hour,
until the box of pills can't give me any colour--
for Thine is the Kingdom,
and my legs are broken for Thine
is the Kingdumb,
where legs are heeled,
running on a second rainbow,
staring off to the left,
not blank stare emotion,
but seeking lonely emotion,
found again in another's dark circled eyes
who did not sleep for the Slaves,
because she became tired,
and sick of being awake it drove her to the caves,
where Angels rape silent with swords.
They've lost all reason like I have,
in Eternal Life. It's all philosophical suicide,
where thingsmaketoomuchsense, so we need danger:
of thick tearing skin,
and thin-teared eyes,
open forever too long to see anything straight,
the ugly world is burned-in,
and blue-acid tears make it more unbearable
to keep them open any longer.
Black and white and red square in bottom,
Blind empty dusty grand staircase:
So you fall back through silken still air,
serene eyes closed,
rainbows dirtied and smashed,
limp corpse falling down floors,
flowing quiet wind,
breathe deep,
with nothing to fear,
just quit being tired,
just quit being teared,
dear city that always sleeps.
