This makes me beyond sad, because my mom will constantly buy me shirts she thinks I "need", despite me having an ever accumulating stack of the ones she herself buys without any prior consultation with me, the wearer, only to become upset later when I do not wear them because I never asked for them in the first place, so I use the few I genuinely like (in my seemingly naive illusion of agency).

So eventually comes OP's mockery: "I got you a shirt today" etc etc. Any objection is dismissed and if I were to refuse the impossed gift I'd feel like an ungrateful cunt. In the end swiming against my mom relentless stream of new shirts leaves me fatigued and angry with myself, damned to carry the heavy "100% cotton" load.
