I'm not very well rounded in literature and definitely not in Novalis, but it seems to me that he, like a lot of other romanticists, is entangled in those ideas of "we must change as people" and "golly nature sure is pure and ideal", as opposed to Phil's more modern, specific struggles of "my girlfriend just left me and the clouds are a metaphor for my feelings".
