Post stilistically nice paragraphs with little to no conceptual content to prove that you can distinguish between good and bad prose. I'll start with an easy one from Ulysses.

Whence, disappearing from the constellation of the Northern Crown he would somehow reappear reborn above delta in the constellation of Cassiopeia and after incalculable eons of peregrination return an estranged avenger, a wreaker of justice on malefactors, a dark crusader, a sleeper awakened, with financial resources (by supposition) surpassing those of Rothschild or the silver king.

This is your brain on high school. Reading books and interpreting them is never about the book or the author, and always about the reader. It is an exercise in meditation on behalf of the reader. Most of the things you will think about in life - beside "knowing how to do x" - are of the kind that requires interpretation. Why did a person said that to me? Why do I feel this way about something? Why do I find this beautiful, or ugly, or sad? Literature gives you the means to conceptualize and express your own perspective on life. People literally lack the words to say thing. Read an application for college, or the average email or facebook post: people are unable to express themselves. You live most of your life like the soul of a human trapped in a golem with impaired speech, babbling your way through extremely complex inner experiences which you will never be able to properly address. Retards are those who don't know how to talk, about themselves and about others. Literature can unironically fix that.

I disagree with your interpretation entirely, but this is the precise reason why Ulysses is the greatest book ever written. It contains so much that it is a universe it allows for me and you to quarrel on it for centuries to come and it is, hands down, the most enjoyable book to reread multiple times I ever had the luck to read. One of the few merits of this board is having recommended this autistically over the course of several years, for which I thank you all wholeheartedly. My life is, unironically, better because I lived in a world where this book can be read.
