So about 10 years ago when i was in elementary school, there was a trilogy at the time of scary books, they were always located in my school library next to scary stories to tell in the dark, they where black hardcover books with a dustcover with a picture and a very small title i think only one word, they contained short stories, rhymes and poems that were scary and just plain creepy, what i can remember was a pranking dad who had a prank misfire and he ate po, i think there was a story involving a cat on the fence outside a windowpane , and i think i could be mistaken but a boy who eats honey who is retarded and hides his honey in a tree, and something happens and they make snow out of toilet paper, these are all the details i remember... any help or suggestions for any of these stories would be helpful thank you!

When it comes to bloging? Yes, your right. I should have stated my issues with his remark in a more dignified manner. I often despise it when others are quik to anger in debating issues, so on that note I would like to apologise to...

Personal question for you folks here at /lit/ assuming you've read these novels.

>Both Slaughterhouse Five and The Things They Carried are books written by veterans about the war. How does each novel address violence of war and how does each other attempt to capture the brutality and complexity of the war? Does /lit/ know how each author feels about war?

>Slaughterhouse Five is a story about a life pre-determined and character who simply fulfills those structured moments. Do you know how fate is important in Slaughterhouse Five and how it is different the way Rabbit or Alexander Portnoy (From Portnoy's Complaint) approached life? Would /lit/ say these characters see life as fated or do they feel the power to change their destinies?

I'm a bit of a bind, /lit/. Your help is greatly appreciated.

hey, sorry for the request, but /r/ isn't putting out. A friend needs to write a sociolinguistics paper on the relexification of words on the chans. Can you help/ give a screencap of a thread that exemplifies the chans' tendency to use particular words without invoking their actual meaning? e.g. op is faggot

I'm going to start with my reigning champion favourite. I could literally masturbate to how good some of the prose is.

I am deeply offended, sir.

Still, Borders is basically just the place to go when B&N doesn't have it.

I'm such a fucking corporate tool.

I'm writing a story but I need some sort of... theme to it, name wise. I speak 4 languages; English, Japanese, French, and Latin. Which should the "theme" be?

Okay, /lit/, let's play a little game. Here's how it works.

1. Pick your favorite quote from a book, or just a quote from your favorite book.
2. Go to http://funnytranslator.com/translation/#disclaimer
3. Enter your quote into the box
4. Select Max(56) Translations
5. Hit translate
6. When it's finished, post it here.
7. Try and guess what book each new quote is from

Starting it off: "Alec money, pete, George and I almost broke the night working cattle."

I'll give you a few minutes.

Thy slide out shelf which slides,
How I love you so!
Each time when I need to put an object down;
you are there.
For every day when I need you,
Utter disappointment is never there.
Cause I love you and you love my objects.
Kind to my every need, I love you, O' slide out shelf.

For Gulliver, his experience in the land of the Houyhnhnms is essentially one of self discovery, social upheaval, realisation and social traumatisation. His arrogance as a 18th century European is very apparent as can be seen throughout Part 4 He remains very patriotic to his home land of England and indeed towards it's society, ironically the very society he comes to despise. His discovery of the intelligent horses, the 'Houyhnhnms' and of the savage humanoid 'Yahoos' is as much of a shock to Gulliver as it would have been to the 18th century reader. Nature as it seems, has been turned on it's head with the servants now the masters and the masters now the servants. Using this pretense, Swift manages to deftly satirise European societies arrogance towards foreign culture and indeed humanity itself.

What you guys think? Its the intro to the assignment due in 6 hours. Help me please. Pic unrelated.

>>The Trial is amazing, read it now.

The Trial was one of the most brutally boring books I've read in my entire life. In my opinion, it is Kafka's worst. Read The Metamorphosis instead.

Good day, folks. Before you balk at this topic and sage it to hell, do allow me to explain myself.

I want to make a topic addressing the anon-tee-ay-elle-kay issue. Now before you accuse me of being a bot, know that I hate that fat pedophile fuck. I'm getting pretty sick of the spamming. At first, we all just "dealt with it". That's getting old.

I'm not going to make a lengthy rant; I just want to start a topic on what I consider to be a pretty damn good board. General discussion, if you will. And possible solutions.

So, that said, feel free to discuss your thoughts on the issue and the new depth it's reached. I have faith in you, good /lit/izens.
