I just got Jorge Luis' Collected Fictions. What's your opinion on it?

Hey, /lit/. I've long been a fan of Kafka's works, and I've always had the sense that Kafka-lovers (as well as non-Kafka lovers, make no sense) would love Borges.

So I bought this volume of his stories.

The thing is, I have no idea where to start? Of course, I could just go through it. But that's not what I'd tell someone interested in Kafka and picking up his Collected Stories for the first time.

So tell me, /lit/. Where do I go with Borges? With Kafka, there are well-known major works: "In the Penal Colony," The Trial, The Metamorphosis, "The Hunger Artist," and so on. I don't know anything about any of Borges's works though.

So I have this collection of Borges' stories translated by Andrew Hurley. I've read from various sources that his translations are terrible, and I don;t want to read inferior renderings when good ones are out there.

Can anyone tell me if these translations are actually that terrible, and, if so, what translations should I pick up to get into Borges.

Please don;t reply with: "Learn Spanish, you pleb" or anything to that effect.
