That's right, I'm posting a kids book in /lit/.

Anyone else actually read it? Thoughts?

why didn't they fuck the night before hte second games?

I mean they're already sleeping in the same bed and they know they could easily die virgins the next day.

how the fuck can anyone maintain a platonic relationship under this kind of tension?
what about his morning wood?

/lit/, regular /sci/entist here, but I wanted to divulge in the more right-brained debate for a little.

...The Hunger Games? What is the official stance on this series? It's all based off that older book "Battle Royale", right? And then there's my inner-hipster that rejects most new trends...I was just wondering if this book was worth my time, since I have been busy lately and I have a big list of books I want to read and don't want to corrupt with anything too too shitty =/.

Teenage friends revere it, even the ones that usually side with me on topics such as this. But if it really is just over-hyped and being brought up by people pretending to read it after just seeing the movie, I'd really rather just continue reading all the John Green books and "Miss Penegrine's Home for Peculiar Children"

Not trying to cause a Berlin Wall-esque divide, just would like to hear opinions ~

Hey there /lit/. I've seen a lot of shit about the Hunger Games being posted around here, and I have to ask, why do you guys hate it so much? It seems like a majority of /lit/ dislikes it, and would just like to know your reasoning behind it.

So e/lit/es.

Hunger Games is really getting big in my country.
I understand you think that it's shit, but why?

I was talking with a pretty litterate girl I know, and she said that I couldn't just tell it off as shit before I read it, and she kinda has a point.

I've already read Battle Royal and I liked it.

So what's so bad about Hunger Games?

Ugh.

My girlfriend asked me to read this wanting to know what I thought of it since she loved it and knows that I like to read a lot.

The Good:
- About 80% of the book was well paced for the type of story it was trying to tell.

The Bad
- When the pacing was wrong, it was REALLY wrong. It felt like the author was speeding between rural towns and forgot to slow down in the school zones. The book largely skipped over any and all of what I think was supposed to be character development.
- The characters. Hated them all. Completely forgettable. Not that they were generic or anything like that, but that they had no personality because of the stunted character development. I didn't care about any of them and if the main character had died I would have probably yawned.
- The FUCKING LOVE TRIANGLE. Seriously. What? The main character is torn between two dudes, one whom you only see in one scene and it is established that she thinks there's nothing romantic between them. Suddenly toward the end of the book she's like "Oh, wait on a minute I'm totally in love with him too, what ever shall I do." Total fucking shit. To make it worse there's no chemistry between her and the other dude in the triangle either, it's just like some bitch who decides to be in the middle of two guys so she goes and does it.
- The writing. I know this is YA fiction, but this must even be entry level for that. There is no sense of organisation about how each chapter is written and scenes are mushed together violently and I feel like I have whiplash from the lack of separation. It was something that once I noticed it, it really became distracting.
- Occasional bad grammar.

Over all I'm pretty sure this may be one of those rare times where the movie is better than the book. I'm just sad because I know there won't be any nudity in the film like there is in the book because

Hey /lit/, I'm mostly around other boards, but I was wondering if you guys could tell me why every woman I know thinks The Hunger Games are the most amazing recent books out there, while all the men find it bland and so-so? I have not read the books myself, but the gender gap in how people discuss them with me is amazing.

Are the books really that imbued with feminism? Or do they just speak to women over men in that mysterious way that shitty romantic comedies do?

With the announced movie and everything, I finally decided to read the hunger games trilogy.

Did anyone else feel that come the third book the whole thing pretty much desintegrated. The first two books were very readable and also managed to feel tangible.

Come the third book, it's like I suddenly stopped feeling anything for any of the characters, because they stopped acting believable.

Probably the only part I actually found really interesting was the end, where I wondered if the whole hospital|palace scene was just a hallucination after she was buried under the rubble.

So everyone is telling me to read Hunger Games and how it's just the best damn book in the world. I'm a little skeptical, because some of the same people that are telling me this are also twilight enthusiasts and I don't think our tastes quite match up. Have any of you read Hunger Games, and could you tell me your thoughts on it? I know I'm going to see the movie and would prefer if I could read the books first. Thanks.

Hey /adv/ whats the obsession with these books? I see English majors reading them and liking them and I cannot understand why?

I read half of the first book (it's a trilogy right?) and it seemed like a shittier version of Battle Royale.

Is it just the same deal as Harry Potter?

I just finished Battle Royale. It was pretty awesome. I really liked the concept, even if it was a bit unbelievable. I saw the movie a long time ago, and it seemed more like an action flick, while the book was more focused on the thoughts and reasoning of the students. It's really hard to do that in a film, though, so Ill give them that.
