Beauty is rooted in the ideal, and realized in the optimal, not extremized in the notional; the realistic ideal consists in optimality, which entails integral engagement with matter; the optimal human body is vegan, healthy, fit, mobile, strong.

The body should integrate within itself the physical strength & mobility of the animal, just as the mind should attain to the noetic clarity & lucidity of the angel.

Lifting "weights" in incremental manner is pessimal hypertrophic exercise which, beside producing a surrogate sense of achievement within oneself, and/or a superficial impression within superfluous individuals, only serves to occlude freedom of motion within one's body, thereby, ultimately, and in recursive manner, pessimally affecting one's psykhe.

The only aerobic, and anaerobic, exercises that one needs to regularly/quotidianly practice in order to optimally free, maintain alignment within, and build firmness of, the body, are those of running, stretching, and corebased strengthening, in that order of importance, and in whatever manner one finds optimal for oneself (martial arts, calisthenics, yoga, et cetera).

Restore the purity, and the freedom, of the child body, stop hastening its decay.

>"Whoever has come to know the world has discovered the body, and whoever has discovered the body, of that one the world is not worthy."
— Jesus Christ, The Gospel of Thomas.

If you are a lifelong "NEET" who gets to read/write/watch television & movies/et cetera every day, then your suffering is minimal, and you should be thankful that you at least get to have the freedom of space, and the financial support, to conveniently plan the future that you want.

Assuming you already do any, or all, of the aforementioned activities, or any other spiritually, and mentally, engaging activities, you should also physically exercise your body for a minimum of two hours quotidianly in order to optimally balance & stabilize your energy; mental deterioration, mood swings, and the psykhical injuries caused by them, are reversed/overcome by virtuously conditioning the mind, in the same way that physical injuries are overcome by virtuously conditioning the body.

One overcomes mood swings, and the psykhical injuries caused by them -- as in your case, apparently-- by conditioning one;s mind, in the same way that one overcomes physical injuries by conditioning one's body

>Do you think they're right?
No; your parents are idiotic.

The health of the spirit, and of the mind, is synergetically contingent on the health of the body, and vice versa; when all three are mutually synchronized in excellence, one moves perfectly, being able to attain to the exalted image of Spirit.

>when and why did physical fitness and philosphophy/intellectualism become two seperate and, in the case of modern stereotypes, mutually exclusive endevours?

1. Philosophy, and intellectualism, are two mutually exclusive things --the former is ontological fullness through gnosis, the latter is an euphemism for snobbery.

2. Circa eighteenth century with the rise of Illuminism, which entailed hyperintellectual implosion, severing ontological remembrance, and occluding the capability to attain to the exalted image of Spirit via the body.

>Does /lit/ keep themselves fit?
Yes.
