Typically books "off a high school/first year of college curriculum" are classics.

Imagine people wanting to discuss really good books? HAH

I'm new to /lit/, and I will be moving soon to a new apartment which probably won't have internet for a while. Before you ask, yes, I already looked at the sticky. I am new to philosophy and politics, and was wondering where i should start. I should also mention that my vocabulary is fairly small and i have an attention span to match. Are there any starter books on philosophy or politics that would be good for me? If not, what are some books that could keep me entertained or maybe help me better myself while I'm without internet?

Just realized my dad is completely dissappoint at me wanting to be a writer, so to either flog myself or just try to get myself restarted I'm gonna start posting the crap non/fiction I write once in a while along with many fragments of other stuff.
First off: Names Have Been Changed

I was sitting in the popular table, or at least as close to “popular” as the kids in the drama club are. It’s a rare thing I sit near these bozos, but it’s the place the hostess sat me in when I got here. I’m at the coming out party for a young dame I once fooled around with; I guess she liked me well enough not to defenestrate my memory once I wiped my hands. So here I am, in a party for a girl turning 18 and going off to college. The sophomore girl next to me, a 7 on a good day, is talking my ear off with a nasal voice that can cut through concrete. She’s trying to convince me to be social since I look so down compared to everyone here and it’s funny that I’m wearing sneakers and a shirt while everyone’s in dress and I should smile because I look almost sick and
—fuck her--
I’ll go along with it; it’s not like I have anything better to do.

I've been through a rather funny (at least to me) incident today in English class.

My English teacher was going over a chapter of a certain book with the class. Book: 'Not Without Laughter' by Langston Hughes. Now if you read the book, you would know chapter 1 is entitled 'Storm' and chapter 8 is entitled 'Dance'

Teacher: Why is the chapter called 'Dance'?
Kid: Because its the main event of the chapter.
Teacher: (gets red face) NO - Anyone else?
Kid: Why is chapter one called 'Storm' then?
Teacher: Why is it?
Kid: Because all that happens is a cyclone.
T: You've got to read BETWEEN THE LINES. What is it about?
K: IDK
T: Anyone?....Anyone?...(RAGING AT THIS POINT) DO YOU REALLY THINK ITS JUST ABOUT A RANDOM VIOLENT ACT OF NATURE? DO YOU REALLY CARE WHAT GENDER OR COLOR THE PERSON IS? DO YOU THINK IT CARES IF YOUR SKIN COLOR IS [BLUE] OR [ORANGE]? THE AUTHOR IS TRYING TO SAY THAT IT DON'T MATTER WHAT PERSON YOU ARE, BECAUSE NATURE DOESN'T CARE$#%#$^

At that point, I was forcing myself not to laugh.

South Park Reference: The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs

If you've seen this episode, it has some similiarities with my story above.

Recap: Cartman, Kyle, Kenny, and Stan all collaborate to make the most disgusting story ever. Their story gets leaked to their parents, so they put the blame on Butters. Butters becomes a worldwide bestseller.

The 4 boys try to get their credit back from Butters and takes it to court. The judges then try to say that the book could have not been written by 4th graders and then start to fight over the meaning of the book.

1 goes: THIS IS THE MOST LIBERAL BOOK EVER.
Other: NO THIS IS THE MOST ANTI-LIBERAL CONSERVATIVE BOOK EVER.

The point of this thread: ANALYZING LITERATURE IS STUPID.

Discuss.
