Those certainly are some bold statements without any supporting facts. Did you have anything of value to say before I disregard your comments entirely?

tonight I got into an argument with my friend.
He argued that there were no reasons why books should be any more than mainstream entertainment in an ideal world. How do I argue against that?

'Sup, /lit/. This seems to be the best place to ask my question (/b/ was a terrible idea).

I have to write a paper using one of four writing prompts, and I might just bullshit the topic for one of them. Maybe you should decide.

Here's the basics of the prompts.

1.) Write about the person who has had the greatest influence on your life.

2.) Write about a "Kodak Moment" that has stuck with you for your entire life.

3.) Write about what gave you your sense of socioeconomic class when you were a child.

4.) Write about what your wardrobe says about your personality.

...In all honesty, I hate all four of the writing prompts. This is a college description essay I have to write, and since none of these prompts are extremely applicable to me, I might as well bullshit the entire thing.

What say you, /lit/?

I've been out of college for a few years now, and I don't read very often any more. I've got more free time now and I kind of want to get back into the sport. I'm interested in Sci-fi/Fantasy, anything with an engaging story and preferably scholarly language (I feel my vocabulary has suffered from disuse).

I know this is probably the best place on the internet to ask:
>What are your favorite sci-fi/fantasy novels, or novel in general, and why?
(picture unrelated)

two instances of ad hominem:

you assume my writing is bad
you assume I'm the OP

Laws are MEANT to be based on commonly agreed upon morals. Not are.
Consult this nifty chart to see where your argument lies.

There are commonly agreed upon morals. We agree that killing is generally wrong, the government is in place to protect it and because of this requires money through taxes to function, etc.
There will always be difficult issues like abortion, and that doesn't mean that there can't be a commonly agreed upon moral stance on them at some point. 80 years ago women couldn't vote; we have since then come to a moral agreement that women are equal to men.

sure is ad hominem around here. I guess I'll just have to get used to it, since morons don't know how to argue.
