Used bookstores are the only physical vendors I buy books from anymore, but you'll have to shop around to find one that has both reasonable prices and a good selection of stuff for sale. Don't reject a place for being "pozzed" until you've actually looked through their shelves. Bookstores always try to put the books they think will sell the best in front and the less-popular stuff in the back. I've seen multiple stores with YA fiction and New Yorker-approved garbage in their front window that still have big back areas filled with nonfiction and classics.
Most used book places aren't chains, so it's hard to recommend a particular store unless you're talking to someone in a particular city. I generally like charity bookstores, because they're not picky about what they put on the shelves and tend to give a good price. Half Price Books is also fairly good, but they'll rip you off if you try to trade anything in. Libraries that sell books are a goldmine, but they're rare in the US. Don't be afraid of thrift stores and recycling centers either.
On the other hand, "independent bookstores" that only sell new books are always worthless and somehow even worse than Barnes & Noble. They try to pass themselves off as actual used bookstores, so be careful.
If you can't find any good used bookstores in your area, eBay is the only other option.

>bitching about mainstream academics when you can just ignore them get all your learning from google books, project gutenberg, sci-hub, and libgen
Higher education as we know it in the US is on its way out. If you care about literature, history, or philosophy, you have an obligation to help build a parallel intellectual tradition before it's too late.
To put it another way, stop filling up this board with trash and talk about books instead.
