>He thanked the Bostwicks and bade them good-by; they walked with him and Edith to the front door. He had almost reached the front gate when he heard footsteps running behind him. He turned. It was Edith. She stood very stiff and tall, her face was pale, and she was looking straight at him. "I'll try to be a good wife to you, William," she said. "I'll try." He realized that it was the first time anyone had spoken his name since he had come there.

bros I can't, it's just too much. When you've dated BPD woman you'll know how much this hurts.

Just finished pic rel. I went in knowing nothing. I enjoyed it, the language was simple and beautiful. Not sure if the author was vindicating the life of a man like Stoner or lamenting it. Been pondering that for a day or two and also thinking about how people might look back on my own life some day. What did you guys think?

I'm a little under halfway through and bored as hell. Is it worth pushing through it? I could live with the meh story if the prose was better, but it's seriously dry.

The story is interesting but the prose is dry as the Mojave. I'll push through it, but I can feel my eyes start to glaze sometimes while I'm reading it.

Why the fuck was this so good? Why was I so enthralled reading the biography of an otherwise mediocre man? Why am I not alone? Why did so many others love this?

I don’t often post here, so please forgive my ignorance, but I just read this book after repeated recommendations and I absolutely loved it. The final chapter may be the greatest piece of literature I’ve read thus far. I’m thinking of starting The Dream Songs next as I’ve only watched Berryman’s interviews and enjoyed his humor and manic neurosis. Are there any other books that I should check out based on my enjoyment of Stoner?

Jesus Christ, this book is so good. It really showed me just how badly I wanted him to be a 'hero archetype' and do something amazing but he just sort of lived a fucking stoic life. Goddamn this book is great.

Time to spend a long-ass time looking for another book to be engrossed in

Thoughts on Dave Masters' dichotomy of insider vs. outsider? As in, Stoner was an insider of the "asylum", while Charles Walker was an intruding outsider. Also, how can Dave's philosophy be related to Stoner and Katherine's affair? I noticed the author used a similar dichotomy before revealing they were "of the world, after all."

Can we talk about it? I'm curious to hear your opinions on it and the characters

Also, you think it deserves to be in the top 10 books of all time list?
