Started reading this one yesterday. Really liking it so far. What do you guys think of it / other works by Cook?

I tried getting into this, but it's boring as hell. Can't follow shit.

Why do people like it?

Sup /lit/, I keep hearing that I should read these series of novels if I like fantasy, but I'm a poor fag and I'm not sure if I should start a new addiction.

So should I stop reading after The White Rose?

A friend of mine is going through some pretty serious depression and is having a hard time coping.

I know that I feel the most free and detached when I am absorbed in a long book and find it almost jarring when I snap back and realize that reality is actually a thing that exists.

I am thinking of buying him a book that will keep him occupied for a time and help him escape a little. Something long and engaging with character depth and good narrative.

I was considering The Black Company (picture related) by Glen Cook, but I am coming to /lit/ for some more suggestions because you guys have some pretty good ideas sometimes.

Could I get some thoughts on the Black Company? I'm in the mood for some fantasy, but I have no idea what to get. A friend recommended this to me, is it good by fantasy standards?

I want to get into this, but the writing style is terrible. It's like the author has ADD and I'm reading an overview of a great fantasy book, not a great fantasy book itself.
