Detective story set in the style of a young adult novel.

Young University aged girl has a chance encounter with a homicide detective and they strike up a unlikely friendship. The detective is hunting a serial killer that has been terrorizing the city, dismembering young women and doing all sorts of fucked up shit to their bodies, posting their bodies to social media via throw away accounts. Girl spends her free time searching for the killer and eventually finds a lead and shares it with the detective.

They set a trap using the girl as bait and they catch the killer.

A month later they are having a party at the detectives house to celebrate some achievement the girl made in her studies or some shit. Anyways the girl never arrives to the detectives house and the detective searches the city the whole night for the missing girl. In the dawn he searches the local park as the sun rises to see a headless, legless and armless torso dripping with blood tied to a statue in the middle of the park. A copy cat killer killed the girl.

He is numb and his suffering is added too as over the next days the arm and leg meat of the girl is found stuffed into soda cans and left across the city.

I don't know whether to have the detective catch the killer soon after or for the detective to obsess over the case for the next decade long after the police have declared it a cold case. I'm not exactly sure what I want the 'message' of the book to be yet. Something about human obsession. I want the killers to be characterized to the reader by how I describe the murders. I want the reader to be able to know about the killer without the killers even talking in the story itself.

And yes it is definitely a ripoff of Kara no Shojo.
