What are some books you would highly recommend to an intelligent young person? What books had a great impact on you when you were young (I suppose I'll define "young" as anywhere from early teens to early 20's).
Pic related, I'm about a quarter of the way through it. I'm 18 and a week away from going to college and I feel like I'm reading this at the perfect time in my life.

you had my heart
and we'll never be worlds apart

but you'll still be my star

finished this a while back, been meaning to make a thread here.

probably tied with count of monte cristo as my favorite book now. (not really claiming its artistically/literarily equal, just that i liked it about as much)
anyone read more maughan? i'd appreciate direction on which to pick up next, online resources seem to consider this his best and don't really mention any of his other books.

And here's what I'm reading right now: Of Human Bondage. I'm maybe 1/3rd of the way through and so far I like it - the author does a great job capturing the feeling of youth - passionate beliefs, desire for independence, desire for both comradery and individuality, the gradual coming of maturity, etc. I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes next....
