Plutarch's Lives is cool to read, partly because he pairs two biographies together to present a common theme.

Jim Ottaviani has written many great graphic scientists and scientific history. I've read almost a dozen books by him and liked them all.

Other than that, here are some of my favorites:

Woman Rebel: The Margaret Sanger Story by Peter Bagge
American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin
Shakespeare: The World as Stage by Bill Bryson
The Price of Peace: Money, Democracy, and the Life of John Maynard Keynes by Zachary D. Carter
Washington: A Life by Ron Chernow
Beethoven by Barry Cooper
Napoleon: A Political Life by Steven Englund
Red Rosa: A Graphic Biography of Rosa Luxemburg by Kate Evans
St. Patrick of Ireland: A Biography by Philip Freeman
Isaac Newton by James Gleick
Mozart: A Life by Paul Johnson
Nietzsche: Philosopher, Psychologist, Antichrist by Walter Kaufmann
A Difficult Woman: The Challenging Life and Times of Lillian Hellman by Alice Kessler-Harris
Kafka by David Zane Mairowitz and Robert Crumb
Peter the Great: His Life and World by Robert K. Massie
John Adams by David McCullough
Ludwig Wittgenstein: The Duty of Genius by Ray Monk
To Purge This Land With Blood: A Biography of John Brown by Stephen B. Oates
Churchill: Walking with Destiny by Andrew Roberts
Beethoven: The Man Revealed by John Suchet
Buddha by Tezuka Osamu
Herbert Marcuse: Philosopher of Utopia by Nick Thorkelson
Lincoln: A Biography by Ronald C. White
