Asceticism is life denying , they cannot deal with material world so they escape it but the key is to rise above it.To stay grounded in the middle of the storm to enjoy the fruits of the tree but not be attached to them, its easy to be spiritual in monastery but far harder in society.

There is nothing wrong with material pleasures as long as one is non attached and remains in conscious awareness.
As some based buddhist say it is not the world of experience that is bad but our fixation on it.

If there is a god you must confirm it ,see ,experience god . There must be a process of transformation , a death and rebirth , a point from where no faith is required . This is why advaita vedanta is good because it delivers.
