>Here I will use SEVERAL examples to illustrate my point....
>Proceeds to only give THREE examples.
When people say "several" is it in a metaphorical and biblical sense (is it like saying - "I have AMPLE examples")? Or do they just give up after they cant think of any more ideas and obfuscate the obvious lack of examples by making it seem like they used more than they actually did?
They shouldn't be using a numerical value if it does not actually correspond to the number actually used. It's annoying, misleading and bad writing. I've seen it happen in both academic historical writing (the worst offenders desu) AND legal writings all the way up to the Supreme Court. Stop it.
