>One sets out to disagree with him, and the response is, "Oh, no, no, my dear . . .” In a class on Shakespeare, a mod-dressed graduate student suggests that Iago may be sexually jealous of Othello; Bloom tilts his furry eyebrows, his stockinged feet crossed underneath him, his hand tucked in his shirt, and cries out, “That will not do, my dear. I must protest!"

Why is this man so highly regarded in the lit world? He sounds like a cringeworthy and pretentious faggot

>Bloom defendsthe concept of the Western canonby discussing 26 writers whom he sees as central to the canon:
William Shakespeare
>Dante Alighieri
>Geoffrey Chaucer
>Miguel de Cervantes
>Michel de Montaigne
>Molière
>John Milton
>Samuel Johnson
>Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
>William Wordsworth
>Jane Austen
>Walt Whitman
>Emily Dickinson
>Charles Dickens
>George Eliot
>Leo Tolstoy
>Henrik Ibsen
>Sigmund Freud
>Marcel Proust
>James Joyce
>Virginia Woolf
>Franz Kafka
>Jorge Luis Borges
>Pablo Neruda
>Fernando Pessoa
>Samuel Beckett

So there are some questionable people on here like Freud and Neruda. How would you fix this? He should definetly switch out Freud for Nietzsche.
Also if any of you say that Dosto should be on there im going to lol. Dosto is for adolscents and stupid Americans.

I was watching an interview and Harold Bloom said something along the lines that he thought that you didn't really 'read' poetry until you have the poem memorized and can recite it by heart. Do you guys agree?

“You know, I don’t want to be offensive. But ‘Infinite Jest’ [regarded by many as Wallace’s masterpiece] is just awful. It seems ridiculous to have to say it. He can’t think, he can’t write. There’s no discernible talent.”

“But Stephen King is Cervantes compared with David Foster Wallace. We have no standards left. [Wallace] seems to have been a very sincere and troubled person, but that doesn’t mean I have to endure reading him. I even resented the use of the term from Shakespeare, when Hamlet calls the king’s jester Yorick, ‘a fellow of infinite jest.’

Why'd he do my boy Deef so dirty? Seriously, what the fuck was his problem?
