Why did Jack London change the feel of the novel so much with the final third? It really diminished the quality of the story, there were so many different directions it could have been taken and yet he goes with the cheesy love story where it all ends happily ever after. Was this his socialist views coming out?

Jack London is a good choice. OP, read The Sea-Wolf; something tells me you'd appreciate the character of Wolf Larson, and he'd illustrate for you why this purely masculine approach to the world ends in something monstrous. Interestingly London wrote the book as a response to Nietzsche's idea of the ubermensch.

Autumn, you always asked me what my favorite book was. I never did have a real answer, but sometime in our second year dating, I found one. On a whim, I reread it, and made my decision.

I tried to find my copy to loan it to you. I never found it in time.

I know everyone misses you. Your friends, your family. They have more right to miss you than I do.

But sometimes I think I miss you the most.

I'm sorry you never got to read it, but here it is.

For you, Autumn. I still love you.

I don't care what you say, Larsen is the main character here.

I just finished pic related and I really liked it. I felt that Hump and Maud leaving the ship was kind of a weird decision for the story, but it was overall pretty good.

What do you guys think of it?

Finished this recently.

Let's talk about that Übermensch Wolf Larsen, does /lit/ oppose against his world view as much as Van Weyden?

What would Wolf Larsen's imagined son be like?
