Translations are shit.
Trust me, all translations (especially Russian) suck out most of the meaning behind words (but can work if the language translated to belongs to the same linguistic family as the original) to the point where it's much more practical to learn the language instead of guessing which translation conveyed the author's meaning the best ; direct or interpretive translation etc. and even then there are emotions and refferences that cannot be translated.
Also it's very easy to learn a 3rd, 4th and even 5th language in your spare time with duolingo, language specific discords and books

It's OK at best. Armie Hammer and Chalamet have some real chemistry together and their performances are filled with subtext in how they speak with each other and behave around each other.

I do think it ruins it with the sex scenes. Some of them are really tastefully shot, with the sex depicted just off screen as the camera pans to outside the window or something, and other times it feels gratuitous just to make you squirm (Chalamet cums inside of a peach and Armie Hammer eats it).

Other than that: cinematography is beautiful; Sufjan's music is beautiful; the ending is beautiful; overall not much happens at all and really I felt like I wasted two hours on what was an OK gay film.

Go watch Andrew Haigh's Weekend if you want a gay drama that has both characters leave each other with a genuine realisation about their own lives.

Go watch The Handmaiden if you want a lesbian drama with a crime story at the backdrop filled with twists and turns that will keep you guessing and also give you boners.

Go watch Blue is the Warmest Colour if you want an intricate and in-depth look at a lesbian relationship in contemporary france with, unfortunately, very gratuitous sex scenes (which last for way too long and contribute nothing to the story).

There's just better films than Call Me By Your Name to be honest, OP.
