some pretty cliche imagery and forced alliteration in the first couple of lines and it seems to develop more into prose then poetry.

the line 'to go away; to escape' seems a bit clumsy, and the ending seems to like any real impact.

very seasonal, sorta mythic the image of a writer taking the fire of creativity from the divine to warm the wastes of a blank page, interesting last para with the allegory, sacrificial act of writing to send off the chariot of your works. feels like the use of 'and yet' in the 3rd stanza is a bit strange, doesn't quite fit, and now reading over it 'Just so,' in 2nd stanza is a bit clunky, but overall really nice poem.

Inheritance

An ancient heart beneath skin of earth
at whose beating the Heavens quake;
This blood of man tread deep in mud
from marrow is born; writ in bone.

Vigorous West! Envy of the World!
Civilization; all the gifts of Man
bloodied, battered, vicious - fires of war
yet, the Noble Dead give way -

Our soil, our roots, our sweat and toil
work of a thousand generations; story spoke
in every deed and thought in this Desert Vast
in endless aeons of ordeal Glory Be;
forgot the virtue of the noblest dead years and is
honest, humble, meek - interlock our arms as one
to be forever broke upon The Wheel

Why are so many people so unable to discover, decide on and dedicate themselves to an individual purpose of life that they need to have one handed to them? And why are so many people so insecure about this outside imposed purpose that they have to force it on other people? For that second group, wouldn’t it be easier to just let others to decide on their own purpose?

i read this in prison without having a clue what it was. i enjoyed it immensely. i am a huge sci-fi fan so my opinion is biased.
