The elements found in the earth, our skyscrapers, and us have interesting origins. In the early universe, the only elements were the simple hydrogen and helium atoms. They started coalescing, due to the attraction of gravity, into huge dense clouds. As the clouds got denser and the pressure increased, the atoms started fusing together unleashing loads of energy that caused other atoms to do the same until the cloud burst into a fiery hot ball called a star. These stars fused hydrogen into helium and the more massive stars could fuse helium together in its core. 4 helium atoms fused together produces carbon and 5 produces oxygen, the two most common elements in the human body. The stars finally reached the end of their life cycle and erupted in massive explosions, vomiting all the elements it created far into space. These elements ultimately found its way into you. You are space dust -something Neil "smoke the grass" Tyson would say
