Wallace has consistently outspoken on how poisonous entertainment can be in interviews and such but it seems to me that a huge underlying part of the book is how fruitless slaving away at tennis is. It seemed to me that the thing most of the characters in the enfield tennis academy besides mario want has nothing to do with enjoying tennis. Glory, weed, cash, a place above other people. It just comes off as how they actually do in the game is inconsequential and almost predetermined or set. I feel like the book is saying underneath it all that it really doesn't matter how your time is spent but this is the extent it can come to. What are your thoughts on this?

Still trying to figure this one out. I wrote 500 last night. I think 1K is a good short-term goal. I set up my Google calendar to alternate between reading/writing for an hour everyday at 9PM, then doing whichever of the two that I didn't start with for another hour. I'm a little worried that 2 hours of reading and writing everyday will burn me out.

Haven't started it. I think my prose needs 1000K more words of practice before I'd feel competent enough to write a novel.
