Because Christianity decided to make up the idea of eternal hell(which is a falsity).
You see, you can't really say that God creates billions of people in the full knowledge that a vast majority of them will be condemned to eternal torment for finite sins, while also saying that somehow God is still good.
Reading the original greek texts in their totality, there is simply no justification for the idea of an eternal hell, yet all the churches made it dogma or doctrine, probably so that they can force people into behaving a certain way.
Gnosticism is merely a reaction to this false and contradictory image of God painted by most christians. Now of course, gnosticism is clearly false, but if eternal hell actually existed (it does not), they would be right.
