‎"Why it was that upon this beautiful feminine tissue, sensitive as gossamer, and practically blank as snow as yet, there should have been traced such a coarse pattern as it was doomed to receive? Why so often the coarse appropriates the finer thus, many thousand years of analytical philosophy have failed to explain to our sense of order...."

communist in it's authoritarianism, that was meant to read. there is still no political freedom for individuals there.

As Žižek likes to say, it's a capitalism with authoritarian eastern values.

Actually, maybe Žižek would be a good one for you. He's a marxist kinda.

shitty article

I wonder if Žižek would perform some sociological / psychoanalytical analysis on memes / internet culture.

I guess the fact that he hasn't either shows he has never experienced it or that (more likely) he has and found it to be completely vapid

I do have a few friends but they are more interested in getting drunk in the pub/park nowadays, the culture where I live doesn't exactly encourage philosophical aspirations. The people in my english class are unbelievably pretentious and I mainly try to avoid them.

My girlfriend is really great and I love her a lot but she isn't exactly 'cerebral', for example she prefers vampire and fantasy fiction than books with any intellectual substance.

I'm trying not to sound as if I believe I am a tortured genius who is wasted on the plebs who surround me, but I do see that the 'physical' culture of Glasgow isn't one I will ever be able to live happily with. and this for me is why i think there is a disproportionate number of people on /lit/ from scotland/ireland/northern england.

That's a relief, I thought the narrator might become too annoying if the prose wasn't exceptional enough to save it.

I've never heard of this author, did he writer about the irish as a people? I would have thought you would have preferred Flan O'Brien or something.
