Why was I filtered harder by Ulysses than Finnegans wake? Like the latter, despite it being harder to make sense of, was also easier to get through than Ulysses... and yes I finished both, my head is fucked

I've read some of basic /lit/core(pic related) I'm really into DFW's bio he seems pretty cool anyone know of any not-sane writers?

>inb4 someone says some stupid shit that author's bios dont matter and its only the substance in which they create that i should worry about

As I've heard. I am pretty much following this list but skipping some books and adding others. Hopefully I can enjoy it thoroughly and peacefully during my summer.

You don't need Portrait for Ulysses, but I'd advise going Dubliners->Portrait->Ulysses->Finnegans just because they advance in difficulty, so if you say, find Portrait difficult you should wait to "level up" so to speak your reading abilities before moving on.
Same way I'd say for Woolf go Dalloway->Lighthouse->Waves
Too many people jump straight to Ulysses hearing its the "best", don't "get" it, get put off, and think it's impossible for anyone to do so.
Pic related has its own issues and dodgy placements, (War and Peace especially) but I think it's on the right track. Not to say entry-level is necessarily bad, Dosto is personal favourite and I'd agree he's beginner friendly.
"Entry level" shouldn't be thought of as an "elitist" term, but a tool to help people read.

Try "entry level" on this chart if you really don't know where to start.

I'm a STEMfag who got into lit at the age of 21. Camus and especially Dostoevsky were what really started my interest. So my picks would be The Strange and Crime and Punishment - or maybe Notes from Underground first instead.

See pic related. Has some dodgy placements like War and Peace though.
