>kill all men no more babbies pls because
No one is claiming this neither, holy shit nigger what are you doing?
> which sometimes suck
Non-existence by definition on the other hand can't suck. By having children you are knowingly condemning them to suffer and eventually die out, whereas the alternative wouldn't bother anyone.

>Perhaps such a system could be put in place for those who show themselves to be competent and influential intellectuals under regular circumstances.

That only perpetuates the status quo, a unique thinker won't be appreciated instantly because he's not operating within the systems normal values.

And then of course you'll get arguments from STEM types who would say all arts and most theoretical sciences are useless and all money should go to the engineers doing practical thinking.

>then it's for fun
WELL WHAT THE FUCK ELSE WOULD IT BE FOR
ha ha ha, you are the ultimate worm. Most people don't read literature because they don't find it fun. Those who love literature do indeed find it entertaining and enriching to read it. Then there are people like you, who try to adopt the airs of being cultured for the sake of polish, like putting lipstick on an intellectual pig, or wearing glasses because you think they make you look smart. You aren't interested in literature, and admittedly find it boring / un-"fun."

I ask myself, why do I read, and continue to read, books that I don't really much care for?

Books like Gravity's Rainbow, Atlas Shrugged, and Infinite Jest, for example. It's partly curiosity, I expect, rather like climbing up a difficult and brush obstructed trail to get to a mountain top or at least some sort of overlook. Maybe there will be something worthwhile at the end.
