why is this even on /lit/

so can someone explain to me why on the road is so highly regarded? I just dont get it

Anybody else know these feels?

I want to keep going to college but it's hard for me to stay motivated because I still live with my parents and they're very indifferent when it comes to me and school. I performed very badly last semester and decided to take this one off after a rough start, and they just called me a disappointment (even though I withdrew so I didn't wind up losing motivation and failing again, which would've been a waste of over a thousand dollars they paid).

I don't really know what to do about things like transferring because they just don't discuss college/university plans with me. They also fight constantly which adds up the stress, and it really just brings me down that the only place I can find solace in anymore is my minimum wage part-time job.

I actually should probably get a decent hat for when I work outside at my seasonal job. My scalp where my hair is parted has gotten sunburned the last two occasions I worked.

I have no idea what kind of hat to wear though, I don't really want a baseball cap or one that's made of a dark/heavy material. The only time I wear hats is in the winter when I'm out shoveling.

The same goddamn thing happened with Kafka On The Shore. For some time everyone on here was raving about how good it is, so I buy it, and from that moment onwards, everyone seems to agree that it's awful.
