In the Gospel of John, when Jesus asks where Lazarus is and Mary tells him "Come and see" and Jesus bursts into tears. "Come and see" is what Jesus said to his own followers, so in this scene its reversed, and Jesus feels for the first time (in John at least) the full gravity of what it means to be a human being.
