Has there been a noticeable difference in the type of literature being written today than the 1990s? Have any new trends emerged other than new sincerity?

Soo umm, how do I stop watching anime and start reading books?

The anime series was fantastic.

The novel was mediocre. I guess the inner ramblings of Sato just weren't that fun to read. Misaki was more interesting in the novel, but Yamazaki/Sempai were weakly characterized in it almost to the point of becoming non-entities. Also, the anime was made more interesting because of the sideplots of visiting the otaku district, visiting the game college, the MMO, and suicide island, none of which was present in the novel. Yes, I know that the novel came first but all of the additions the anime made were improvements IMO.

They are two totally different books. Snow Crash is a post-cyberpunk comedy and Neuromancer is a cyberpunk thriller.
