How likely is it that aliens will be advanced enough to invade in a few hundred years but not advanced enough to kill you instantly

I actually think nobody will believe it, everyone will deny the existence of aliens, people like trump would deny the existence and prevent everyone else from preparing for the invasion

am I retarded or just based in not being interested in more fiction?
I guess it might be related to being asian and hence more alien.

Why did /sffg/ say this was bad?
I read it a little slower than I'd read a truly great book (started Wednesday, just finished this morning) but it was a genuine fun, interesting read the whole way through. The video game shit was goofy and there isn't much flourish to the story or how it's told (apparently the only bit is done in the translation), but it does is job in showing me sci fi ideas put together in a way I haven't seen them before.
>but the characters-
There are 3 well realized characters, two of which form the actual story. They aren't great, deeply-studied characters, but this isn't a character drama. They serve their purpose just fine; the protagonist is as interested in going to the next page as me, and Dr. Wenjie, the only character who makes a character choice that drastically changes the world, has enough around her to make that choice interesting.
>but the prose-
You niggers clearly don't read. This is far from the worst prose in a good SFF work. Has nobody fucking read Asimov? The spam of walls of nonsensical Bakker paragraphs when someone asks for 'good prose' should've told me that though.
Yeah, good read. Excited for the next one.

Just finished this. I loved it. It's been so long since I've read good, clean, hard sci-fi that was actually interesting. I'm positive that Three Body Problem is going to be canonized in the sci-fi corpus, which is something I've never said about any other contemporary scifi novel.

Absolutely fantastic. Thanks for the rec /sffg/

They had this. Actually, they dominate some industries, solar panels for example.

They also just passed Russia for per Capita GDP, but all the adults grew up when it was as poor as India now. Development and education lags a generation.

And you could say the same thing about Russia. 130 million people and nowhere near the output of Germany or France.

>muh undeveloped characters
Why can't westoids enjoy plot driven novels? Caring too much about characters is gay and feminine anyway.

Are these books fundamentally retarded? I wanna read them, but the whole concept of the Dark Forest seems so laughable to me. It's such a human perspective to have, and the idea that other species have somehow developed the exact same way is just insane, in my view.

ok, ok. It all came together. It all got explained. It all makes sense now.
But it wasn't satisfying. The first few chapters of the book were so dramatic and heavy. The last few chapters were a comedy.
The book is structured in reverse. With everything you need to know happening in the first third, and all of the dramatic climaxes happening in the first third. All the intensity in the beggining, all the levity in the end. The ending utterly anti-climatic. Almost like the author realized how difficult advancing the story would be from that point and simply threw in the towel.

I'm sorry guys, but I can't say I liked it. I get the sense that a few of you here like it a lot. And apparently it got some awards, so I expected it to be better. The story was just told in a disjointed way. And it was kind of fascinated with science in a fanboyish way. In a way that was similar with seveneves. Where scientists are lauded so much that they're practically superheroes in the universe.

I haven't read any reviews, but I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that the reason this book got the acclaim, was for the fact that it wrote about the tragedies of Chinese's political conflicts from the perspective of a Chinese author. That probably got all the reviewers feeling super woke for reading this one.

Guys, the three body problem is really testing my patience. I'm going to try and finish it off, since I'm late in the book already. But I can't imagine it winning me over in the last third.

In the mean time can anyone tell me what I should read next? I'd like to have something I can begin immediately after the three body problem is done.
Sidenote: I'm still trying to get Dying Inside.

Here's my obligatory reading history: https://pastebin.com/0sxDLqBK I pastebinned this time, so as to keep the thread clean. Aren't I considerate?

>only scholars and high-power CEOs are interested in playing the Three Body video game....because it's too complex for gamers
It's a fully-body-immersive VR experience that can induce hot/cold, pain/pleasure, and spans the evolution of several civilizations. It's beyond anything we can dream of having in the near-future, yet...gamers don't play it because it's "too deep"? Really?

This guy has never met an autistic gamer who plays things like Dwarf Fortress or Ultima Online or SS13 and so on
