I read Lev Grossmans 'The Magicians', and 'The Kingkiller Chronicle' by Patrick Rothfuss. Each had their streangths and weaknesses, and i mostly enjoyed them, but they are not exactly what i'm looking for. I'm not sure what is. So i'm asking you here, do you know any good books where the protagonist(s) learn magic? Preferably one with a detailed explanation of how the magic works. Thank you in advance for any answers.

Mere moments ago I finished finished an edit of the second of three parts of my novel.
It's an original fantasy world, set in what would be roughly 700ad in the real world.
The first part is about a young slave girl who escapes her master during a sacking, and her struggles to survive.
The second part is about two brothers trying to rule while feuds and rebellions tear their little kingdom apart.
Then the final part, wherein all the previously unassociated players come together, centers around a queen widow who tries to reestablish her father's kingdom.
It's much more character fiction than genre fiction.

Do you read silently, with a voice in your head or just plain aloud? Will a work be the same work if read either way?

I feel like I may be becoming a hermit before my time, and may look back on my youth as a distant memory. Any books to bring meaning and focus to the present?

Are there any writers who have hopped genres and then settled?
Are there any writers who constantly hop genres?
Are there any writers who have suddenly started to genre hop?
Are there any writers who hop and suck at one genre and succeed at other?

Or is it that there is only one genre that one writer can do better than the others?

It's an interesting model, for sure. Using techno-linguistics to explain bio-phenomena can be very useful. If you expand your study to computer engineering, it can really open new alleys for the spiritual search. I've found from studying hermeticism that these various information pathways can all relate to each other and help explain one another.
We can scale up or down and learn the same lessons. Scale up from matter into the ideals of spirit and essence, scale down into man-made structures of cyberspace, the allegoric representations are there as simply information.

>Read several books
>Microdose on psilocybin
>Synthesize information
>Repeat
Not much more to it bois. As an added warning, I'd advise staying away from all substances manufactured by (((chemists))). You never really know what you're getting, and you'd be a fool to trust any acquaintance who claim to have gotten it from their "old hippie friend".

Is third person limited the best perspective? Maybe it makes more sense to jut describe a scene instead of trying to describe the inner thougts of the characters. What do you think?

You must read the rest for the sole purpose of dismantling it.

Plato is the one true God, and Aristotle is his prophet.

It is our destiny to research "the rest" so that we may properly correct people and show them the errors of their ways.

I didn't see a QTDDTOT thread so I'll ask this way
In Robert Fagles' translation of the Iliad, Book 6, Hellen is expressing to Hector her disgust with her coerced marriage to Paris
>But since the gods ordained it all, these desperate years,
>I wish I had been the wife of a better man, someone alive to outrage, the withering scorn of men.
What did she mean by this?
Is she saying he's capable of being enraged, or that he's someone who is hated?
