What is the best way to read philosophy? With highlighters and sticky notes or can you just take it on?

Is there an ideal edition of pic related?

Been interested in picking up for a while.

Can someone explain to me the stages of simulacrum to me? My smoothbrain can't quite figure it out, but I think an example would be like:

>Stage 1: A faithful copy of something that exists (e.g. a photo of a castle)
>Stage 2: An unfaithful copy of something that exists (e.g. an photo of a castle that's been photoshopped)
>Stage 3: A "faithful" copy of something that doesn't exist (e.g. a photo of a unicorn)
>Stage 4: An unfaithful copy of something that doesn't exist (e.g. a cartoon of a unicorn)

With the last stage being complete simulation, total unreality. Am I right? I need this cleared up
