What did it mean? I'm not sure I understood what Camus was trying to get across with this book.

What books around 200 pages would you highly recommend? Why?

I've always read fairly long books and only recently started to enjoy shorter books.

>pic related

Pic related is fucking perfect right until the last two or three pages. I'm not talking about the ending, it's also good BUT it's the Mersault's chimpout that fucks everything up, it should have been an autist's story but Camus had to shoehorn an explanation. And then reading reviews on the book's back with sentences like 'Knowing that he [Camus] is using absurdity, travels straight to human minds' fucking normies have no idea of being autistic and think that the story is just absurd. BOTH THEM AND CAMUS ARE ALL FUCKING RETARDED.

Camus on the book: 'In our society any man who does not weep at his mother's funeral runs the risk of being sentenced to death. I only meant that the hero of my book is condemned because he does not play the game.'

Basically this book is about a lazy fucker. It takes energy to form deep relationships, to actually care about friends/family, to hunt out beauty. Yet Camus instead misinterprets this guy's laziness as some problem in society or in the human condition.

But le absurd masterpiece, le profound existential character.

Should I give it a go? Skipped on reading it in high school, but I kept hearing people mentioning it all the time since. Is it really that mind-boggling, or at least a good read?

The conversation with the priest really does it all.

I don't quite understand it.

I feel that Mersault changes during the final chapter, when he is visited by the priest, but I don't understand why or how.

Firstly, why was Mersault so passive previously? He lets himself get led around by other people, including agreeing to marriage just because. I don't see how he's passionately committed to truth, as Camus claims in the afterward, either, since he lies to the police.

Secondly, what was with the dog? Does it mean anything?

Thirdly, why does Mersault want people to hate him in the end?

so is this book critical of Meursault and how he acts or is it critical of how society responds to Meursault's actions (or lack of them)?

This book sucks. Why is every sentence so short? Why is it such a boring trudge despite being short overall? The language is so simple. I get it, he's dissaffected and edgy.

Do I have to read this in french to get why it's so praised?

Meursault was an autistic freak.

>doesn't abide by social etiquette
>personality like a block of wood
>kills a man during an autistic tantrum

And yet...

>gets laid regularly
>with multiple women
>one wants to marry him even though he's a murderer

What did Camus mean by this? Is SMV the only thing that matters in an otherwise uncaring universe? If an ugly person tried this shit they wouldn't have gotten out of their bedroom.

Fuck this retarded norm garbage to hell.

Starless by King Crimson

I see the really slow, building solo in the middle of the song as Meursault's walk across the beach

People often talk shit about him but it seems like he's got a good thing going.

Or did he become absurdist when he knew he was going to get executed?
