No, but in the modern world where looks are everything, ugly people are rejected so hard by society that they have no scope of expressing their intellect or using it in any meaningful way. You never see truly hideous people in positions of power or doing important shit, they just stay at home hidden away from society. Ugly people could thrive in the past but not anymore.

If it's any consolation I have stable secure work, a mortgage and have been blissfully unaware of social media for years and I still want to die. Existential pessimism isn't a school of thought, it's reality. Life isn't supposed to be good and we aren't supposed to be happy. You realise this after you get all the things you supposedly wanted.

Actively engaging with philosophy makes you worse at life. You make worse decisions, work less effectively and are less happy. I have noticed this over the past 7-8 years of my life of on and off reading philosophy. I presume it's because real life and the human condition are too absurd and trying to make rational sense of it can only be counterproductive.

I'm not saying philosophy is useless, it can be entertaining to read but it objectively does not help you to live a better life if that is your goal.
