In this thread we post exceptional writing, the only criteria is quality. As a general rule if you don't remember the words with some distinction, it doesn't qualify. I constantly find myself quoting the following to myself
>What is the greatest thing you can experience? It is the hour of your greatest contempt. The hour in which even your happiness becomes loathsome to you, and so also your reason and virtue.
>The hour when you say: What good is my happiness? It is poverty and filth and wretched contentment. But my happiness should justify existence itself!
>The hour when you say: What good is my reason? Does it long for knowledge as the lion for his prey? It is poverty and filth and wretched contentment!
>The hour when you say: What good is my virtue? It has not yet driven me mad! How weary I am of my good and my evil! It is all poverty and filth and wretched contentment!
>The hour when you say: What good is my justice? I do not see that I am filled with fire and burning coals. But the just are filled with fire and burning coals!
>The hour when you say: What good is my pity? Is not pity the cross on which he is nailed who loves man? But my pity is no crucifixion!
>Have you ever spoken like this? Have you ever cried like this? Ah! If only I had heard you cry this way!
>It is not your sin -- it is your moderation that cries to heaven; your very sparingness in sin cries to heaven!
>Where is the lightning to lick you with its tongue? Where is the madness with which you should be cleansed?
>Behold, I teach you the Overman! He is that lightning, he is that madness!

So many threads about nihilism today...

Maybe mods should sticky a babby's first existential crisis guide now that summer is coming.

Here you are young nihilist, you are at a crossroad and you seek meaning, what can you do? In other words, what the answers to nihilism? How do I bounce back?

1. Kill Yourself
Although Camus might disagree with me as to the validity of this answer, it still is an effective way to end nihilism, because the craving for meaning disappears and so does your angst.

2. Find meaning in God or in a movement, a collectivity (patriotism, communism, etc.)

Nothing much to say. The meaning you seek is tightly wrapped in a convenient manner for you to sooth your headache.

3. Sit in a corner and piss yourself to death like a truly ambition-less living thing would do.

Very few people are true nihilists. We all have small ambitions that dont seem as empty as big ambitions (eating, sleeping, feeling comfortable, etc).

4. Overcome nihilism.

This is the hardest answer to nihilism but the one that I recommend the most. By rejecting values that come from an outside source, by attributing as most important whatever you find to be in the best interest of your life-task, you lose the arbitrariness of it.

Hello /lit/.
I am looking for good books to read for pure entertainment. I'm looking for books with great plots, and are hard to put down.
No heavier stuff, just pure entertainment. Thanks in advance!

Hey /lit/,

I've decided to learn German. After some thought I realized how silly it is for me to only know English and the only thing holding me back in public school was the ridicule from other classmates and not wanting to sound/look weird in front of certain people. I've outgrown this of course.

I'm using the Michel Thomas method, but what would you recommend I read/watch/do to help me learn more or pick up a better German accent?

After this I'll give French a try, or whatever else.

Thanks.

Studying texts and writing papers on them if you think you have an interesting idea or take on the work.

For my research im studying Being and Time and its relationship to The Book of Tea, as well as the validity of what is said in Being and Time.

Other anons have already kindly introduced you to the most common reactions to nihilism, but to be honest I've found that for myself there is no escape. Therefore I tend to make the void my home, and find some form of joy in the face of nihilism, without ever being so intellectually dishonest as to claim that I've actually surpassed it.

That said, I find nihilism to be mostly a burden on top of a shitty life in general. That's when it becomes unbearable. When you organise your life so that it is bearable you can handle the nothingness of it, since it in itself is pleasant enough. Nihilism is mostly the dismissal of artificial coping mechanisms to deal with life. When you've done away with those, you'll have to cope with life as it is. And do as you please with it. Let yourself go. Learn to embrace it all for what it is.

"Only a shameless, indecent saintliness can lead to a sufficiently happy loss of self. “Joy in the face of death” means that life can be glorified from root to summit. It robs of meaning everything that is an intellectual or moral beyond, substance, God, immutable order or salvation. It is an apotheosis of that which is perishable, apotheosis of flesh and alcohol as well as of the trances of mysticism. The religious forms that it rediscovers are the naive forms that precede the intrusion of a servile morality: it renews the kind of tragic jubilation that man “is” as soon as he stops behaving like a cripple: glorifying necessary work and letting himself be emasculated by the fear of tomorrow."
