If you believe the fuckery hereabouts, Moby Dick is a readers dream come true. That's about the worst cover and edition in your pic BTW.

Just finished this masterpiece for the very first time. You were right, it's brilliant, a tear came to my eye as I read the last sentence.

...does this not seem problematic to anyone else?

Well... I don't hate it, but I am so damn tired of the metaphors and similes! Every page is a sentence of information and 4 or 5 of metaphors or similes of that information. It's like a literary thesaurus. My brain is taffy pulled thin, tenuously linked back to that original idea as it wanders down the path of only the latest of the iterations of that tired rehashing.

The forests of trees like school children speak the name Melville with shivers and in hushed tones. Oh, were it not for this boogie-man of the woods, this terror of the forest school yards, were he so imaginary as those previous tormentors! Nay, he is real, real as the ground you stand on, and right horrors he has visited upon the great pulp bearing organisms! With nary a thought, in an age where the only medium is cellulose based, he spins his yarn, and repetitiously reiterates every point with some comparison like a long winded over-achieving poet trying to impress a girl with the literary picture he paints.

Reader beware, for the tongue of Melville lashes with impunity! It wags like a dog and is as incessant as the dog's drool, if left unabated would surely fill buckets! Buckets, I say! Imagine the feelings of revulsion you might feel at buckets of canine drool, strewn about, so much you'd have to watch your step to cross the room. Now that feeling of revulsion, being entirely natural to the species, is the result of those buckets containing considerable bacteria and other disease causing agents, serves a biological purpose. Protecting one like a coat from the damaging cold that is sickness. This or a very similar revulsion felt at the prodigious use of metaphor and simile by Melville server to protect one from the dangers of not being able to recall what the hell the original subject was.

Been reading this book and it's been fucking great. It's like the literary equivalent of eating a box of fine chocolates where every page makes you want to just take a bite and savor the flavor. I never knew my boy Melville could make a bunch of chapters about whale heads absolutely fascinating to read.

Why was this chapter called "The Hyena"? The chapter had nothing to do with Hyenas.

So far it feels like I've been reading a homoerotic novel about a white man and his gay savage lover.

Hey /lit/, I might be stupid or something but how do I accelerate when I read?
My older brother keeps telling my my momentum should be increasing sentence per sentence as if my eyes were a pendolum and its motion was increasing speed.

Im trying to read atm, and My reading pace doesn't get any faster at all, and It's really bugging me, Ive read the same page 10 times even and I can't actually accelerate my pace.
