Someone wrote a novel quite like that. Pic-related.

>haters gonna hate, but honestly, it's a great novel

Don't patronise me.

But honestly, this novel gave me the most feels in years and if you aren't a dummy yourself, you will find lots to think about, both philosophically and literarily (if that's even a word). Symbols, etc, and the whole self-preservation and at what cost deal. It's a soldier's favourite because they can relate to that very much. I've had to hurt people to save people, I know that feel.

So deep it hurts. I'm not even kidding. Some idiots think it's for kids simply because it has kids as main characters. Friendly reminder that children's lit doesn't win Nebula and Hugo at the same time (and the author won a bunch of these). Just saying.

I'm very new to reading, I've really disliked it growing up and always get so bored so quickly with any book I've ever picked up.

Recently, on recommendation of a friend, I started reading Ender's Game (I've never seen the movie) and I'm actually liking it a lot and finding it very easy to read. I like that the chapters are pretty short too.

Anyway, since I'm new to reading, could you guys recommend some good books that are "easy" to read?

This, massively.

>especially if you have or had to hurt people for their or someone else's own good, dem feels when doing your best still feels like the worst

>dem fucking feels

I don't care what jelly wannabe authors have to say on this board: Ender's Game is a fucking masterpiece and contemporary achievement of legendary proportions.

>Hugo and Nebula awards
>both, at once

You can't top that.

Ender's Game

Sorry, but... gave me feels I didn't get in years, literally. It was brilliant.

Are the other books worth reading? I mean, I enjoyed it but I wasn't blown away. I mean, half of it was like reading commentary of a sports game or, fuck me, a Starcraft match.

Sure, it's a bit simple, perhaps even childish, but I think that is mainly due to the age of the characters. I love the whole Ender universe, especially the Shadow series that started with Bean. I think I was lucky to read this for the first time as a kid, because I appreciate it more than I would have if I had only just read it now at 20.
